feminist-friendly video games

The video game industry has always been toxic and demeaning towards women. As a woman, it is incredibly hard to be respected in this community. It is a sexist community but things are slowly changing the way women play video games in today's society. There are many channels that women have started on YouTube and on Twitch. They make a living off of doing what they love. I am writing this post to introduce my top 4 feminist friendly video games!

1. Life is Strange

This video is available on many platforms including: Windows, PS3 & PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One. The game works through episodes and through a player's actions, the story is altered and affected. The story follows an 18 year old photographer who attends a private high school. She discovers that she is able to rewind time at any given moment.

The female protagonist is is important to note because many publishers refused to do anything with this game unless it was a male protagonist. Her coming of age story is important to many female gamers as it is an immersive game-play where the character is a teenager. We can relate to her and that is important for the players to be completely immersed.

2. The Last of Us

This video game is available only on PlayStation 3 & 4. This game is action filled and all about survival. The main characters are Joel and Ellie. Focusing on Ellie, she is a teenager who has to survive a post-apocalyptic world. She is incredibly strong and smart and basically a badass. Ellie is the key to saving mankind and is really important in the story.

3. Ms. Pac Man

Everyone knows Pac-Man but I wanted to mention the background of Ms. Pac-Man! In 1982 she was dubbed at the first lady of video games and holds the all time sales record for a standalone arcade video game(in the US). She was part of a push to get more women to get into gaming. She's pretty much a legend in the gaming community. She broke barriers in the video game industry. You can play Ms. Pac-Man anywhere. Just google Ms. Pac-man online and you'll find many websites that offer the little arcade game.

4. Celeste

This video game is a platformer where the main character goes by the name of Madeline. She has to jumps and climbs walls to make her way up a Celeste Mountain and she explores its secret. This game features a female protagonist in a beautiful game with a beautiful soundtrack. It is available on PS4, Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

I would recommend all these video games as they are all very enjoyable. Every video game is of a different genre so try em out and see which one you like best!
